Who we are
Born from different mothers but with a shared father – Food and Drink – the Founders of The Shallot come from very different walks of life…
Parsley Adams, Founder & Editor-in-Chief: born to a convicted foodie and raised alcoholic orthodox, he quickly learned what not to eat and drink – mainly anything conceived or cooked by Ainsley Harriott. He is a part-time literate, and the public enemy No.1 for outstanding HECS debt.
Herbert “Herb” Greengate, Co-Founder & Editor-at-Large: a go-getter born to a Creole woman in England, raised by meat-eating vegans. Herbert prides himself on being able to tell the difference between salt and pepper (it’s a shame the Gourmet Traveller haven’t yet). With his perfunctory palate and general annoyance for all, he is disagreeable, semi-cultured and a drunk.
Basil Howard, Co-Founder & Designer – born in War Torn Vietnam he is the master of visual media, a guru in his own right. When in his formative years he attended the adamantly prudish Sydney School of Snobbery, King’s College. It was there he learnt not only the art of knowing when the biscuit was too soggy, but also how to turn an image into one thousand and one words.
“We eat, we drink, we write,
Sugar, spice and nothing nice…
We’re The Shallot”.
